Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about hosting on Moves — the kinds of events you can run, how scheduling works, cancellations and refunds, fees, and getting paid.

Listings

What kinds of listings can I create?

There are two:

  • One-time events — a single experience guests book a spot in. Great for anything that stands on its own. Example: a Sunday afternoon watercolor class from 2–4pm, or a rooftop cocktail-making night at 7pm.
  • Courses — a set of sessions guests book together as one package. When someone signs up, they're reserving their place across every session, not picking them one at a time. Example: a 5-week beginner pottery course that meets every Tuesday, or a 2-day photography workshop.

Can I offer different ticket types or prices?

Yes. Each listing can have up to six ticket tiers — for example General Admission, VIP, and Student — each with its own name, description, and price. Your listing shows the lowest tier as a "From $X" price, and guests choose their tier when booking. You can also set early-bird windows so a cheaper tier is only available until a certain date.

Can I run free events?

Absolutely — and hosting free events is always completely free, with no platform fee. You only need Stripe connected once you want to charge for a listing.

Scheduling

Moves gives you three ways to set when your event happens. Pick whichever fits how you run things:

  1. Add dates individually — hand-pick specific dates and times, one at a time. Best for one-off events or an irregular calendar. e.g. March 3 at 6pm, then March 17 at 6pm.
  2. Create a weekly schedule — set a repeating weekly pattern, and each time range you add becomes a bookable slot that recurs every week. Best for a class that runs on the same days each week. e.g. every Monday and Wednesday, 6–7pm.
  3. Set your available hours — give the platform the hours you're open plus a slot length, and Moves automatically generates the individual bookable slots for you. Best when you take back-to-back appointments. e.g. available Saturdays 10am–2pm in 30-minute slots → Moves creates 10:00, 10:30, 11:00… for you.

Every slot has its own capacity, so you control exactly how many guests can book each time.

Cancellations & refunds

What cancellation policies can I set?

When you set a price, you choose one of three policies. This decides what a guest gets back if they cancel:

  • Flexible — guests can cancel for a full refund at any time.
  • Moderatefull refund if a guest cancels 24+ hours before the event starts; no refund if they cancel within the last 24 hours.
  • Strictall sales are final; guest cancellations aren't refunded.

Free events are always fully flexible.

Can I refund or remove a guest myself?

Yes. Regardless of the policy above, you have full discretion as a host to cancel a booking and issue a refund on a case-by-case basis — the policy only governs what happens when a guest cancels on their own.

What happens if I cancel a whole session or listing?

If you cancel a session or delete a listing that has bookings, everyone booked is automatically cancelled and refunded — you don't have to refund people one by one.

Fees

What is Moves' platform fee for hosting events?

At Moves, we love supporting the community, which is why hosting free events is always completely free. For paid listings, we keep our fees simple: just a 5% fee plus a flat $0.40. These fees allow us to keep the platform running smoothly and ensure your payments are always processed securely. Our fees are substantially lower than most competitors, so more of every ticket stays with you.

Who pays the fee — me or my guests?

When you set a price in the Create flow, Moves shows you exactly what your guests will pay and what you'll take home, so there are no surprises. You can enter either the price you want guests to see or the amount you want to net, and we calculate the rest.

Getting set up to charge

How do I start hosting paid events?

You need two things to host paid events on Moves:

  1. A business account with us
  2. Stripe connected to your account for payouts

What is Stripe and why do I need it?

Stripe is our payments partner. It securely processes guests' card payments and sends your earnings to your bank account. Connecting Stripe is what lets Moves pay you out — you can't charge for a listing without it.

What does Stripe ask for during setup?

Stripe collects the details it needs to verify you and pay you: basic identity information, your business or personal details, and the bank account where you'd like your payouts deposited. The whole flow happens on Stripe's secure onboarding and usually takes just a few minutes. See Setting Up Stripe for a walkthrough.

Do I have to finish Stripe setup all at once?

No. If you leave partway through, you can pick up where you left off from the Payments page — just start the connect flow again and Stripe remembers your progress.

Getting paid

How do I get paid out?

Your funds are automatically paid out to your Stripe account within 24 hours of your event ending1.

When will I see my first payout?

After your first paid event ends, your earnings are released to Stripe within 24 hours. Stripe's first payout to a brand-new account can take a little longer while your details are verified; after that, payouts settle on the normal schedule.

Where can I see my earnings?

Your Payments page on this site shows your revenue and booking totals at a glance. For a full transaction-by-transaction breakdown, payout history, and tax records, open your Stripe dashboard.

What about taxes?

You're responsible for your own taxes on what you earn. Stripe keeps a complete record of your transactions and payouts and provides the relevant tax documentation through your Stripe dashboard.

Running your events

How do guests find and book my events?

Once a listing is live, it appears to guests in the Moves app, and you can share a direct link to it anywhere. When you publish, you can also choose to make a listing visible immediately or keep it hidden until you're ready.

Can I manage everything from the web?

Yes. From this host site you can view your listings, see who's booked, check your day agenda and month calendar, pause or unpause a listing, edit the basics, and track revenue on the Payments page. You can also export your calendar (.ics) to sync bookings into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook.
